Ex-Spotify Music Head Jérémy Erlich Launches ALTA Music Group

New venture partners with K-Pop's THEBLACKLABEL, signs BLACKPINK's JENNIE.

Jérémy Erlich, the former Global Head of Music at Spotify, has launched ALTA Music Group, an independent, full-service music company that operates across recorded music, music publishing and artist management services.

The details:

  • ALTA Music will be distributed via The Orchard, Sony Music’s independent distribution arm.

  • It has partnered with Seoul-based record company THEBLACKLABEL, which was founded by producer Teddy Park (BLACKPINK), in what Variety calls “a co-development and promotion agreement.”

  • ALTA’s first management signing is BLACKPINK’s JENNIE, in partnership with OddAtelier.

  • Erlich previously co-managed Jennie and was key to BLACKPINK’s signing to Interscope.

  • ALTA has also signed Cat Matthews, New York group WHATMORE and rapper Bodhi Bleu for its recorded music and publishing divisions.

The team:

  • ALTA’s leadership team includes Nima Khalilian, whose previous roles include Senior Director of International Marketing at Interscope Records, working with artists such as Gracie Abrams and Karol G.

  • She also led international operations at music distribution and payments platform, Stem.

  • Also involved are former Interscope and Warner exec Parker Ulry, Drake Hoffer, Elise Eriksen, Gillian Taugher and Michael Seltzer (Universal Music Group).

Background:

  • Erlich joined Spotify in 2019 and spent six years with the company, where he helped triple the monthly active users from 230 million to more than 670 million.

  • Prior he spent eight years between Universal Music Group and Interscope Geffen A&M.

What they said:

  • Jérémy Erlich: “Throughout my career I’ve focused on the best way to service artists around the world that would create an environment that sets them up for long-term, global success. With ALTA we have the opportunity to do just that – a best in class team focused solely on supporting our artists and the music they create. Everything else does not matter. I’m grateful to the artists and executives who have already put their trust in me and our company.”
