Spotify Adds In-App Messaging Feature
This update comes one day after the streaming giant announced its new Instagram sharing functions
Spotify is continuing its string of major functionality updates with a new in-app messaging feature. Now users can share their favorite songs, artists, playlists, audiobooks, etc., directly with fellow users within the Spotify app.
How it works:
Use the “share” function on Spotify content to send it directly to another user.
Spotify will suggest users based on people you follow or people you have interacted with via adding playlists, making blends, etc.
Once the message request has been accepted, the two users can send messages freely to each other.
To read your messages, tap your profile image in the top left corner of the app to find your inbox.
The feature will be added to mobile devices in “select markets” beginning this week. At this time, users 16 and older will have access.
Spotify has emphasized that its terms against “illegal and harmful content” apply to messages. Users are able to report messages and block other users.
Spotify has also stated that users' data is encrypted when communicating through messages.
Yesterday, Spotify announced updated functions for sharing content through Instagram stories and notes.
What they said:
Spotify wrote in a statement: “Spotify users have told us they want a dedicated space within the app to share songs, podcasts, or audiobooks they’re excited about with friends and family, and an easy way to keep track of recommendations. For artists, authors, and creators, easier sharing means more word-of-mouth recommendations and helps create new fans. Our goal is to give users what they want and make those moments of connection more seamless and streamlined in the Spotify app.”
