Spotify Confirms Video Rollout in the US
The announcement follows the streamer’s direct-licensing deal with the NMPA
One day after announcing it had signed an audiovisual direct-licensing deal for indie publishers with the National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA), Spotify has confirmed it will soon integrate music videos on the platform for US users.
Video stars:
Spotify rolled out a beta launch of its video service in 12 markets across the UK and Europe in 2024.
It included a limited catalog of videos by artists such as Doja Cat, Ed Sheeran, and Ice Spice.
The beta launch was extended to 85 markets globally last October, adding videos by artists such as Charli XCX and Blackpink’s Lisa.
It’s unclear whether videos will be available to both free and paid US subscribers, although Digital Music News notes that the beta launches to date were only available to Premium users.
Wider play:
Digital Music News notes that this move will offer a competitive advantage to Spotify.
It will also position the streaming service to begin competing in the television apps segment with its video podcasts.
