Suno Launches Studio 2.0, with MIDI, Chat Bar, and More

AI-music generator Suno has launched Studio 2.0, an update to its browser-based digital audio workstation (DAW), Suno Studio.

Feedback driven:

• In a blog post, Studio Product Manager Henry Phipps says the updates are a direct result of feedback from artists “at every level” using the tools.

• Studio 2.0 is available to Suno Premier subscribers.

The updates:

• Studio 2.0 incorporates what the platform calls “the most requested addition”: MIDI. Users can now import, record and edit MIDI directly on the timeline.

• A Chat bar (in beta) allows users to “chat with Studio like you would any other collaborator,” whether asking it to create instruments, collaborate on designing new plugins, or tidy up a session.

• Advanced stem separation enables users to bring in audio from outside Studio and extract stems “with amazing audio fidelity.”

• Studio introduces audio effects and the ability to design plugins.

• For the first time Studio features automation, allowing users to alter track and plugin parameters over time by drawing automation curves.

• Premier subscribers can export high-quality (32-bit/48kHz) multi-tracks and stems without limits.

Wider context:

• The announcement comes a day after Suno confirmed a licensing deal with BMG.

• Earlier this week it announced download limits to “make it harder for bad actors to mass-export music.”

• Suno remains in copyright litigation with Universal Music Group and Sony Music in the US.
