Spotify to Offer More Song Credit Information
This update also includes new features to help listeners better understand the creators behind their favorite music
Spotify is expanding its song credits to include more roles involved in the creative process for each piece of music. The platform is also introducing new features in this regard called SongDNA and About The Song.
How it works:
Spotify has historically listed topline performers, songwriters, and producers in the song credits.
Now the credits will include engineers and featured artists as well.
Labels and distributors will provide this information to Spotify. The company emphasized maintaining current data to ensure proper credits.
SongDNA creates an interactive web showing how songs connect to different creative outlets such as covers, samples, and collaborators.
WhoSampled, which is now part of Spotify, is providing data on covers and samples.
About The Song shares stories and inspirations behind songs. Information is sourced from third parties.
The features will first be rolled out within Spotify For Artists in early 2026 before being released to Spotify's full user base.
SongDNA and About The Song will be viewable from the Now Playing tab in the Spotify app for Premium subscribers.
What they said:
Jacqueline Ankner, Spotify’s Head of Songwriter & Publisher Partnerships: “Every song is a collaboration, and every contributor should be seen. With expanded Song Credits, SongDNA and About The Song, we’re giving fans a deeper look at the people and creative threads behind the music they love and giving creators the recognition they deserve. It’s another step in Spotify’s work to champion the people, connections, and stories that bring every track to life.”
Manny Marroquin, Mix Engineer: “So many incredible creatives contribute to a track, and recognising them publicly can be life-changing. Accurate credits open doors, whether it’s new work, new relationships, or simply being seen. Spotlighting the full team behind each song makes our industry stronger and more inclusive.”
