Spotify has started rolling out a new feature that allows users to converse with the platform, either by voice recognition or by typing questions into the Home or Now Playing view on mobile.
What it does:
By typing or speaking directly in the app, users can have back-and-forth conversations with the platform.
They can do this to choose what’s playing: for example, “Play some artists I haven’t heard before.”
Users can also learn more about what they’re listening to: for example, “What’s the inspiration behind Dua Lipa’s Radical Optimism? When was the album released?”
They can ask the same questions of podcasts and audiobooks to find out what other books an author has written, or what other podcasts a guest has been on.
Users can also ask about their listening history: for example, “How many times have I listened to this song?”
The roll-out:
Spotify says the beta feature is rolling out gradually for Premium users 18+ in the US, Ireland, and Sweden, across iOS and Android devices, in English.
What they said:
A Spotify statement: “The new conversational experience is part of our ongoing work to make Spotify more personal and useful for every listener, giving people more ways to get the most out of every moment. Use it your way: press the mic button to talk, type instead, or keep listening like you always have.”
