MNP Music Fund has acquired the master catalog of Colombia’s The Lions Records, the label behind Colombian duo Lil Silvio & El Vega.
Why it matters:
The acquisition reflects MNP Music Fund’s strategy of investing selectively in culturally significant Latin catalogs.
While much of the global music-rights acquisition market has, for the past decade, focused on larger scale Anglo repertoire, MNP Music Fund says it’s been investing in Latin music “ahead of the curve.”
Expanding catalog:
The Lions Records catalog joins MNP’s existing portfolio of more than 1,500 songs, which includes the Oscarcito catalog, the Angel Rivera (of Angel y Khriz) catalog, and portions of the CNCO catalog.
Its portfolio also includes rights to music performed by Bad Bunny (the diamond certified “Niña Bonita”), Marc Anthony, Ozuna, Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Nicky Jam, and others.
