Spotify Rolls Out New, More Expensive Subscription: Premium Platinum
The tier is currently available in five markets across Asia and Africa
Spotify has officially launched a new tier above Premium. It’s called Premium Platinum.
How it works:
The new subscription option is available in the following five markets: India, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates.
New users in those markets can sign up for three tiers: Premium Lite, Premium Standard (which includes a Student version), and Premium Platinum.
A separate free, ad-supported tier will remain available as well.
According to Music Business Worldwide, in India, the price of a Premium Platinum subscription is more than twice what a normal Premium account cost before the new tier entered the market.
The new Premium Standard subscription will also be more expensive than a previous individual premium account.
Current users will retain their perks and pricing with an option to upgrade.
New features for Premium Platinum include lossless streaming, AI DJ, and AI Playlist, which have already been available in markets such as the UK and the US.
What they said:
Spotify: “This is an evolution of our Premium subscriptions portfolio and reflects the engagement insights we’re seeing across our platform. While Spotify has become even more central to people’s lives, those behaviors aren’t universal—so we’re introducing options that consistently meet more of our users’ needs, with local strategies aligned to each market.”
