Seeker Music, the creator-led music rights, publishing and record company founded by songwriter Evan Bogart and backed by M&G Investments, has partnered with multi-platinum recording artist JoJo, AKA Joanna Levesque.
The deal:
Seeker has acquired the original and re-recorded versions of her first two albums, JoJo and The High Road, bringing them under the same umbrella.
The 2018 re-recordings will now be renamed the Clover Room Editions.
First steps:
The partnership begins with Seeker’s release of a deluxe 20th anniversary edition of The High Road, featuring the original album plus bonus tracks.
Existing connection:
Seeker already holds publishing interests in two of JoJo’s best-known songs: “Too Little Too Late,” through its acquisition of RuthAnne Cunningham’s publishing catalog, and “Leave (Get Out),” through its acquisition of Soulshock & Karlin’s catalog via Notting Hill Music.
JoJo was just 13 when “Leave (Get Out)” was released, making her the youngest female solo artist ever to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Top 40 chart.
Bogart and JoJo have also previously written together.
Future plans:
Seeker is working on archival music and visual releases based around JoJo’s discography.
It is also developing a new single built around JoJo’s music with what it calls “one of today’s leading electronic music acts.”
JoJo will launch The High Road – 20 Years Unplugged tour, beginning November 13.
Seeker says the projects reflect its ambition to honor JoJo’s work, create room to revisit and experiment with it, and introduce it to a new generation.
What they said:
JoJo: “When discussions started about Seeker acquiring the original recordings of JoJo and The High Road, my interest was piqued. Over time it was heartening to learn more about their ethos and see how involved and passionate Evan is – someone who truly understands artists because he is a creator himself... It feels full-circle to have both versions of these albums together with a team committed to finding new ways to amplify it.”
