Britney Spears Reportedly Sells Catalog to Primary Wave
The figures and details are yet to be confirmed
Britney Spears has reportedly sold a portion of her music catalog to Primary Wave, as per The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. The latter is also reporting the deal includes “other rights,” though doesn’t go into specifics.
The details:
Are hazy, with neither Primary Wave nor Spears’ representatives commenting.
TMZ, however, says it has viewed legal documents confirming the deal.
The outlet says Spears has sold “her ownership share of her catalog.”
Though financials are yet to be confirmed, TMZ reports a figure comparable to Justin Bieber’s $200 million sale in 2023.
Variety suggests that if that figure is correct, the deal would be unlikely to include her name and likeness rights.
The publication says it’s “safe to assume that Spears’ artist royalties and publishing rights were included in the deal.”
Pop hits:
Though Spears’ catalog includes some of the biggest pop hits of all time in songs like “Oops!... I Did It Again” and “...Baby One More Time,” she did not write these songs.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that Sony Music owns and controls the rights to her recorded catalog, meaning her most valuable rights would come largely from the recordings themselves.
She does, however, have credits on nearly 40 songs in her catalog, including fan favorites “Work Bitch!” and “S&M.”
