BMG has acquired the publishing catalog and sound recordings of British new wave act A Flock of Seagulls.
The deal:
Under the agreement, BMG secures ownership of the band’s publishing rights in the United States and participates in publishing income globally.
It also acquires worldwide ownership of the sound recordings for the band’s core studio albums: A Flock of Seagulls (1982), Listen (1983), The Story of a Young Heart (1984), and Dream Come True (1986).
Included are singles such as “I Ran (So Far Away),” “Space Age Love Song,” and “Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You).”
A Flock of Seagulls and the individual band members were represented by Peter Csathy of Deep Cuts Media.
Financial details were not disclosed.
Why it matters:
The group, which formed in Liverpool in 1979, is regarded as one of the defining artists of the 1980s new wave movement in the UK.
The acquisition continues BMG’s strategy of investing in what it calls “culturally significant, globally resonant catalogs with lasting value.”
In 2025 it acquired country music superstar Jason Aldean’s catalog.
What they said:
Mike Score, A Flock of Seagulls’ vocalist: “We chose to partner with BMG because we believe in its vision to elevate and extend our music to new audiences and generations. We are gratified by their passion and commitment to our music and legacy.”
