YouTube is Rolling Out New Tools to Monitor AI Likeness
The product is a result of a partnership YouTube and CAA announced last December
YouTube has released a new tool to detect AI-generated likenesses in videos on the platform. The eventual goal is for the program to detect unauthorized use of celebrity likenesses.
How it works:
For now, the tool can detect AI-generated likenesses of YouTube creators.
The next step is making the tool available to the YouTube Partner Program.
This new function builds off YouTube's existing Content ID system, which can scan YouTube videos for copyrighted material such as music and clips of films and television.
Videos flagged by the tool will be available for review in the Content Detection section of YouTube Studio.
The creator whose likeness was used in the flagged video will then be able to request removal.
In order to use the tool, creators within the rollout must provide a photo ID and film a short video of themselves.
Background:
YouTube has said to creators that it intends to “protect viewers by keeping the audience from being misled about what you endorse and what you don’t.”
Creative Artists Agency (CAA) partnered with YouTube to develop the function.
