Ty Dolla $ign Settles Copyright Infringement Lawsuit Over ‘Vultures 1’ Sample
The suit alleged unlicensed use of a sample in the track “Fuk Sumn”
Ty Dolla $ign and Create Music Group (CMG), the distributor and publisher that operates Ty Dolla $ign’s label, EZMNY Records, have reached an agreement with the plaintiffs who filed a lawsuit over the use of a sample in the song “Fuk Sumn.” The track is on Vultures 1, Ty Dolla $ign’s collaborative album with Ye (formerly known as Kanye West), and the sample in question comes from “Drink a Yak (Part 2)” by Criminal Manne, DJ Squeeky, and Kilo G.
The suit:
The plaintiffs claim that West’s team attempted to clear the sample but used it before permission came through.
On Wednesday, the plaintiffs released a statement saying they have reached a tentative agreement with Ty Dolla $ign and CMG.
The deal is expected to be finalized within the next 30 days.
The agreement does not include West or his label, Yeezy Record Label LLC.
