Netflix, AEG Presents Sued Over ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Trademark

Christian metal band Demon Hunter are not happy

Christian metal band Demon Hunter have filed a trademark lawsuit against Netflix, Netflix Studios and events promoter AEG Presents over the film Kpop Demon Hunters and the upcoming live tour.

The allegations:

  • The band, which formed in 2000, filed their lawsuit in the Central District of California under their company, Hyde Lane.

  • They allege trademark infringement, false designation of origin, and unfair competition.

Context:

  • Netflix’s Kpop Demon Hunters was released in 2025, along with a soundtrack and branded merchandise.

  • As Digital Music News reports, Netflix recently filed multiple trademark applications for merch for the ‘Kpop Demon Hunters’ live global concert tour, alongside promoter AEG.

  • According to the lawsuit, Netflix’s announcement of the live tour brought its offerings into “almost complete overlap” with the merchandise and other products offered under Hyde Lane’s Demon Hunter name.

  • The band allege the confusion could work both ways, with consumers potentially mistaking Netflix’s products for band merchandise, while Netflix’s much larger profile could lead others to believe Demon Hunter are affiliated with the film.

Damages:

  • Hyde Lane is seeking a jury trial.

  • It is asking the court to restore its “rightful interests” in the Demon Hunter trademark, and the goodwill accumulated around it over the past two decades.

  • It also seeks to prevent Netflix from using the Kpop Demon Hunters name, and asks for restitution and treble damages.
