Apple Music to Introduce Labeling on AI-Generated Tracks

Labels and distributors will be responsible for self-reporting the use of AI

Apple Music is set to introduce a “Made With AI” label on all music that is “materially generated” on AI platforms.

Context:

  • Apple Music introduced AI Transparency Tagging in its content delivery feed in March.

  • This was not visible to listeners but allowed record labels and distributors to flag AI use across a track, its artwork or music video.

  • Later this year those tags will be visible on the platform in the form of “Made With AI” labels.

The catch:

  • Unlike competitors such as Deezer, Apple Music does not detect AI content itself.

  • Rather, record labels and distributors submitting to the platform are responsible for tagging any content that was “materially generated using AI.”

  • Apple Music defines AI-platform-generated content “as anything that is primarily derived from a generative AI service.”
