Tidal has published its AI policy, introducing platform standards “to protect artists, their craft, and inform listeners.”
Key policies:
Tidal defines AI-generated music as music that is “wholly or substantially generated by generative artificial intelligence.”
From mid-July it will identify and tag 100% AI-generated music.
It will expand the tagging to include music that is “substantially” AI-generated as AI-detection models become more reliable.
Also starting in mid-July, Tidal will remove any AI-generated music that impersonates artists or involves high-volume uploads or unusual streaming activity.
AI-generated music will not be monetizable, with Tidal ensuring royalties go only to original works directly produced, written, and performed by people.
Independent artists uploading music via Tidal Upload will be held to the same standards.
Tidal says it will soon require content distributors to identify AI-generated content before it’s uploaded to the platform.
AI exemptions:
Tidal will continue to accept AI-generated music only if it “meets the standards laid out in this policy and our terms and conditions, as well as in our agreements with rightsholders and distributors.”
Other streaming solutions:
In February Qobuz unveiled its AI detection system.
Deezer introduced its own AI detection system in January 2025, and in June that year launched the world’s first AI-tagging system.
