American regional Mexican band Grupo Frontera have launched their own label, BorderTown Records, in partnership with The Orchard.
Why it matters:
The label is designed to support the next generation of talent in both Música Mexicana and other genres.
Founded in 2022 by Juan Javier Cantú, Alberto “Beto” Acosta and Adelaido “Payo” Solís III, Grupo Frontera are coming off a sustained burst of success, with 16 Number 1s on the Billboard Regional Mexican Airplay chart, and a Top 5 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 via their 2023 collaboration with Bad Bunny on “Un x100to.”
The details:
The label will be based in the band’s hometown of McAllen, Texas.
It will offer services across recording, marketing, public relations and distribution.
Miguel Ramirez has been installed as General Manager.
Grupo Frontera’s Con Dolor EP is the label’s first release.
The group have also established a music complex and creative headquarters in McAllen called YUMA, which will serve as BorderTown Records’ operational base.
The company says the label will be open to artists across genres.
What they said:
Alberto “Beto” Acosta: “Everything we’re building with BorderTown Records and YUMA comes from our own experiences and the journey we’ve had to navigate as a group. We want to create opportunities, support emerging artists and build spaces where they can develop their ideas and grow within this ecosystem.”
