Spotify has released two new features that, in their own way, are designed to empower the creative community: SongDNA and Artist Profile Detection.
SongDNA:
The “immersive music experience” is currently rolling out to Premium users globally.
Built into the Now Playing view, tapping the SongDNA card allows users to explore the writers, producers, and collaborators behind a song, see samples and interpolations that shaped its sound, and browse the covers it inspired.
Users can also tap into any of those creators to discover other artists they’ve worked with, then explore those collaborators in turn.
It is, says the streamer, a “way to follow the connections between tracks and see how artists, eras, and genres intersect.”
The connections in SongDNA are powered by a combination of information from artists and their teams, supplemented by community-sourced data.
Artist Profile Detection:
Sparked by the worrying rise in AI fakes appearing on artist profiles, this feature (currently in beta) allows artists to review eligible releases before they appear in their profile.
It’s also designed to prevent metadata mix-ups that result in music appearing on the wrong artist page, an issue that predates the rise of AI music.
Spotify says the ability to approve or decline releases delivered to the platform is a first for any music streaming service.
The feature is optional – to opt in, artists must turn the Artist Profile Protection in their Spotify for Artists settings on.
At the moment, it’s only available to those artists included in the beta.
