Seeker Music Acquires Catalogs of Jay Sean and Cardiak
The company also purchased music rights from “Bobby Bass” Larow
The rights acquisition movement shows no signs of slowing, with Los Angeles-headquartered music publishing and record company Seeker Music announcing it has acquired the catalog of British R&B singer Jay Sean, as well as that of his collaborator Robert “Bobby Bass” Larow. In addition, Seeker has purchased the publishing catalog of American producer Carl McCormick, AKA Cardiak.
The main players:
Seeker was founded by M&G Investments and is led by songwriter Evan Bogart.
It has a catalog of more than 15,000 copyrights.
Jay Sean is the first solo artist of South Asian origin to top Billboard’s Hot 100.
His hits include “Down” feat. Lil Wayne and “Do You Remember” feat. Sean Paul and Lil John.
He has collaborated with Mary J. Blige, Pitbull, Gucci Mane and others, and won the BMI Songwriter Award in 2009.
He is the only British artist to be signed to Cash Money Records.
“Bobby Bass” Larow has accumulated more than three billion streams on songs he’s produced, written or remixed, having worked with artists such as Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé, Shakira and others.
Alongside Jeremy Skaller he’s one half of the production team Orange Factory Music, which is credited with helping discover Sean.
Cardiak has produced tracks such as H.E.R.’s Grammy-nominated “Damage,” and PARTYNEXTDOOR & Rihanna’s “Believe It,” among others.
His credits also include work with Eminem and Coco Jones.
Other acquisitions:
As per Music Business Worldwide, over the past few years Seeker has acquired the catalogs of Mark Morrison (“Return of the Mack”), Christopher Cross, and his producer Michael Omartian.
It has also acquired a “substantial share” of the recorded and publishing rights of Joan Jett; the publishing rights to British indie rockers The Wombats’ first four albums; and the publishing rights of UK production duo Future Cut.
In addition, Seeker has acquired the rights of songwriters such as Jon Bellion (Miley Cyrus, Camila Cabello), John Ryan (One Direction, Maroon 5) and Phil Plested (Lewis Capaldi, Jonas Brothers).
