Reservoir Media Has Acquired Miles Davis’s Publishing Catalog
Davis’s estate signed over 90% of the late jazz legend’s publishing rights
Reservoir Media, a publisher that represents hundreds of artists ranging from David Guetta to De La Soul, has acquired a controlling share of Miles Davis’s publishing rights. The deal also includes the use of Davis’ name and likeness and some rights to his recorded music.
Miles Davis’s Catalog:
Reservoir is expected to make the purchase for $40-60 million.
The deal includes 90% of Davis’s publishing rights.
Per his official website, Davis and his estate have put out over 150 releases since 1951.
The estate is currently managed by his daughter, Cheryl Davis, his son, Erin Davis, his nephew Vincent Wilburn Jr., general manager Darryl Porter, and Attorney Jeff Biederman.
100 years of Miles Davis:
Reservoir is collaborating with Davis’s estate to produce a series of projects in celebration of what would be his 100th birthday in 2026.
Such projects include a new feature film, an orchestral performance of Davis’s music, and four nights dedicated to Davis at SFJazz this coming March.
What they said:
Erin Davis: “We are so pleased to begin this new chapter of Miles’ legacy—we are looking forward to working with Golnar, David, and the entire team at Reservoir.”
Reservoir Founder and Chief Executive Officer Golnar Khosrowshahi: “Miles Davis is one of the most influential musicians of all time, and it is an incredible honor that his catalog has found a home at Reservoir. This moment is also a recognition of Reservoir’s proven commitment and capability to preserve legacies and reignite discovery of legendary artists on modern platforms, like streaming and social media.”
