New Spotify Feature to Display Playlist Editors' Explanations for Song Choices

The feature is called Playlist Notes, and it will be available to users as well

If you’ve ever wondered why certain songs get selected for major Spotify playlists such as RapCaviar and Songs to Sing in the Car, the streamer is now offering a glimpse. Spotify playlist editors will now share their thoughts on their picks with the public through a new feature called Playlist Notes.

Why it matters:

  • Major Spotify playlists are coveted by artists attempting to reach larger audiences. Greater insight into curation methodology can play a role in how artists operate.

How it works:

  • There will be a new button at the top of playlists called “Notes.”

  • Press it to reveal the editor’s profile and their thoughts.

  • Click on the editor to explore personal information about them, including their favorite music and the playlists they manage.

  • Free and Premium subscribers aged 16 and older in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand will begin seeing the feature soon.

For users:

  • This feature will also be available on user-curated playlists via the Spotify mobile app.

  • Playlists Notes is rolling out on iOS and Android in over 100 markets.

  • Tap the three dots next to any song, audiobook, or podcast episode in the playlist, and the option “Add note” will appear.

  • Select that option, type in the note, and save.
