Live Nation, Ticketmaster Face Lawsuit Over Ticketing Technology Patent

Ticketmaster and its parent company Live Nation are facing yet another lawsuit, this time over ticketing technology.

The issue:

• As per Bloomberg via The Ticketing Business, the lawsuit “alleges that Ticketmaster’s SafeTix mobile ticketing platform copies patented rotating barcode technology.”

• EChanging Barcode LLC alleges that SafeTix infringed US Patent No. 9,047,715, which relates to the use of rotating encrypted barcodes.

• The technology prevents screenshot fraud.

• Live Nation and Ticketmaster reportedly faced similar claims previously, which were withdrawn last year.

Ongoing Live Nation lawsuits:

• In 2024 the Department of Justice sued to enforce a breakup of Live Nation and Ticketmaster, accusing them of creating a monopoly across the live concert industry.

• In September 2025 the Federal Trade Commission and seven states filed a lawsuit claiming the companies allowed ticket brokers to bypass purchase limits and sell bulk tickets on the secondary market at a significant markup.
