Live Nation, Ticketmaster Face Lawsuit Over Ticketing Technology Patent
The suit was filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York
Ticketmaster and its parent company Live Nation are facing yet another lawsuit, this time over ticketing technology.
The issue:
As per Bloomberg via The Ticketing Business, the lawsuit “alleges that Ticketmaster’s SafeTix mobile ticketing platform copies patented rotating barcode technology.”
EChanging Barcode LLC alleges that SafeTix infringed US Patent No. 9,047,715, which relates to the use of rotating encrypted barcodes.
The technology prevents screenshot fraud.
Live Nation and Ticketmaster reportedly faced similar claims previously, which were withdrawn last year.
Ongoing Live Nation lawsuits:
In 2024 the Department of Justice sued to enforce a breakup of Live Nation and Ticketmaster, accusing them of creating a monopoly across the live concert industry.
In September 2025 the Federal Trade Commission and seven states filed a lawsuit claiming the companies allowed ticket brokers to bypass purchase limits and sell bulk tickets on the secondary market at a significant markup.
