IFPI Takes Down Y2mate and 11 Other Piracy Sites
Y2mate was one of the world’s most visited stream ripping sites
The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) has shut down stream-ripping site Y2mate.com, as well as 11 other similar websites in Vietnam.
Traffic:
As per Music Business Worldwide, the impacted sites collectively received more than 620 million visits globally in the past year alone.
Operations closed:
The enforcement agreement dictates that the operator of Y2mate and the other sites permanently shut down the services.
They also agreed to stop infringing IFPI members’ rights.
Most of the domains – including Y2mate.com, Yt1s.com, Utomp3.com, Tomp3.cc, and Y2mate.gg – are now in IFPI’s possession.
What they said:
Victoria Oakley, CEO of IFPI: “It is a first-of-its-kind success in Vietnam for the music industry, and we aim to build on this momentum to address other infringing services operated from the region. We will continue to tackle services which infringe our members’ rights, and to help protect the global music community.”
