FatBeats, the New York-founded indie hip-hop distributor and e-commerce retailer that was acquired by Rostrum Pacific in 2024, has purchased Massachusetts-based Traffic Entertainment Group, including its direct-to-consumer store and label, Get On Down.
Why it matters:
The acquisition unites three respected independent music institutions.
It creates “a comprehensive, fully integrated platform spanning physical manufacturing, global distribution, marketing, premium direct-to-consumer retail, and digital services,” as per the media release.
The combined entity will be led by FatBeats’ President Chris Atlas and General Manager Kevin Engler.
The companies:
Since 2003 Traffic Entertainment Group has specialized in global physical distribution of hip-hop, disco, reggae, funk and soul music.
It services independent distributors, one-stops, and speciality boutiques across CD, vinyl, and digital formats.
With a catalog of more than 300 titles and counting, Get On Down specializes in deluxe vinyl, cassettes and CD reissues. It was founded in 2010.
Investment:
As per Music Business Worldwide, Rostrum Pacific secured $150 million in financing from Crayhill Capital Management at the backend of 2025.
That same year, Rostrum consolidated Rostrum Records, FatBeats, Cantora Records and the SpaceHeater digital distribution platform under the Rostrum Pacific banner.
What they said:
Chris Atlas, President of FatBeats: “As we bring Traffic and Get On Down together with FatBeats under the Rostrum Pacific umbrella, we will expand our reach, enhance our capabilities, and continue delivering best-in-class distribution, premium products, and unmatched service to the independent music community. This is not simply a combining of two businesses, it is a shared commitment to preserving and amplifying independent music and artistry.”
