Community Music Expands Funding Offering for Independent Artists

Australian independent company UNIFIED Music Group has expanded the funding capabilities of its Community Music platform, which provides upfront funding to independent artists based on projected future royalties.

The expansion:

• Though Community Music – a curated distribution platform purpose-built for independent artists – has been deploying capital to a limited number of acts since late 2024, the launch of a new back-end platform means it can now calculate available funds in real time.

• The move follows the hiring of respected startup investor and capital strategy specialist Matt Allen as Head of Capital in February 2026.

How it works:

• Funding offer amounts – ranging from AUD $2,500 to AUD $5 million+ – are calculated live each month, based on the artist’s streaming data and projected royalty income.

• Artists, labels, and rightsholders can log into their Community Music dashboard to see the level of funding available in real time.

• Repayment is automatically collected from incoming royalties, meaning no equity changes hands, no rights are transferred, and artists retain 100% ownership and control.

• Australian and international independent artists can apply to join the Community Music roster here.

Why it matters:

• While platforms such as OpenWav and Sound Royalties offer similar upfront funding to artists, Community Music is the first locally-owned Australian business to build data-driven underwriting and funding for the independent sector.
