Thanks to an agreement between Consumer Protection B.C. and StubHub Canada, those who purchased obstructed-view tickets to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour stop in Vancouver may be able to claim a refund. Ticket holders must show that the obstructed view was not disclosed when they paid for the seats.
Background:
There were tickets branded as “no view,” which meant they only allowed a view of screens and not the stage.
These tickets were originally on sale for $16.50.
Scalpers raised those prices by as much as 150%.
Purchasers of these scalped tickets on Stubhub were not notified of the obstructed view.
The consequences:
An investigation was conducted into StubHub following the incident that revealed the non-disclosure of the obstructed views.
Omitting such information is against Canada’s Ticket Sales Act, prompting the requirement to offer refunds.
Ticket buyers eligible for refunds will be contacted by May 1, 2026.
StubHub has agreed to better reveal ticketing information, including the original face value of the ticket, its fees, service charges, and refund guarantees.
StubHub must also pay $6,000 in inspection fees to Consumer Protection B.C. and $2,500 to the Consumer Advancement Fund.
What they said:
Louise Hartland, Director of Public Relations at Consumer Protection B.C: “We are here to ensure ticket purchasers have protections under the law and the law is followed. That includes secondary ticket platform operators and sellers disclosing the face value of a ticket and offering refunds when events are cancelled, or the ticket doesn’t match what was advertised.”
