30,000 AI-Generated Tracks Uploaded to Deezer Daily
The number has tripled since January
Paris headquartered streaming platform Deezer has revealed it is receiving over 30,000 fully AI-generated tracks every day, accounting for more than 28% of the total daily delivery. That number has risen from 10% in January and 18% in April.
Combating fraudulent streams:
Deezer unveiled its AI music detection tool at the beginning of the year, through which it tracks fully synthetic content on the platform.
Though it claims that fully AI-generated music currently accounts for only 0.5% of streams on Deezer, up to 70% of the streams generated by fully AI-generated tracks are fraudulent.
Whenever Deezer detects stream manipulation of any kind, it excludes the streams from the royalty payments.
All 100% AI-generated songs are also automatically removed from algorithmic recommendations and are not included in editorial playlists.
In June Deezer became the first (and so far only) music streaming platform to explicitly tag AI-generated music.
AI ‘artists’:
Several AI-generated artists have garnered significant followings on Spotify, with The Velvet Sundown currently at 340k listeners (down from a high of 1.5 million in late July); country ‘act’ Aventhis at 520k listeners; and Blow Records with 1.7 million.
Also an issue, unauthorized AI generated tracks turning up on deceased artists’ pages, such as Blaze Foley and Guy Clark, while Toto and Anthrax have also had unauthorized fake tracks appear on their profiles.
What they said:
Alexis Lanternier, CEO, Deezer: “Following a massive increase during the year, AI music now makes up a significant part of the daily track delivery to music streaming and we want to lead the way in minimizing any negative impact for artists and fans alike.”
He adds: “Our approach is simple: we remove fully AI-generated content from algorithmic recommendations and we don’t include it in editorial playlists. This way we ensure the impact on the royalty pool remains minimal, while providing a transparent user experience. And most importantly, we continue to fight fraudulent activity, which is the main driver behind uploading fully AI generated content.”
