English events organizer Wannasee Limited – which has delivered nearly 100 independent festivals over the past 13 years – is in discussion with liquidators and has cancelled 10 festivals across the UK.
What happened:
In a statement, Wannasee cited a "difficult trading environment" and "decline in customer confidence" as placing it in a position from which it could not recover.
The impacted events include four Wannasee-branded festivals, which focus on tribute acts, as well as the Kubix and Monument festivals in Sunderland, the Sign of the Times Festival in Hertfordshire, and three editions of the Stone Valley festival.
Acts impacted include Shaggy, Doves, Public Image Ltd and The Fratellis.
It is unclear whether the upcoming Lindisfarne and Northern Kin festivals will go ahead, although the statement says "positive discussions are underway."
Concerning trend:
In February the UK's Association of Independent Festivals said 215 UK festivals had gone under since the pandemic.
American festivals such as Coachella witnessed slowing ticket sales this year.
