Ticketmaster to be Fined Over BTS Ticket Sales in Mexico
Consumers complained about issues with the presale and general sale
Mexico’s Federal Consumer Protection agency, Profeco, is set to fine Ticketmaster more than 5 million Mexican pesos ($288,000) over reported irregularities relating to the ticket sales for the May concerts by South Korean boyband BTS.
The details:
Profeco alleges Ticketmaster violated consumer protection laws in Mexico.
Ticketmaster was notified of the penalty on January 28 and has until February 12 to respond.
On notice:
Profeco has also issued “electronic appeals” to resale platforms Viagogo, StubHub and Helloticket, urging them to comply with national regulations to avoid unfair practices against consumers.
If no response is received, Profeco says legal and administrative actions will be initiated, including procedures for violations of the law and possible restrictions on operating in Mexico, as per a translation of the Mexican-language press release.
