Five hundred Target stores across the US will open at midnight local time on October 3 to sell copies of Taylor Swift’s 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl.

Midnight openings were common for tentpole releases in the ’80s, ’90s and early 2000s, but have become rare in the age of streaming where releases are instantly available.
Variety reports, however, that Target received a huge response when it offered an exclusive vinyl edition of Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department on Black Friday last year, with the record almost immediately selling out.
Target will house three exclusive CD editions of The Life of a Showgirl, all of which are available for presale on its website: “It’s Frightening,” “It’s Rapturous," and “It’s Beautiful.”
Each includes an exclusive poster.
