In a new report, the Financial Times has shared the potential launch window and price range for Spotify's long-awaited AI-powered remixes and covers tool. Anonymous sources familiar with the matter said the feature will arrive in Q1 2027 and cost around $4 or $5 a month on top of current subscription fees.
The details:
Spotify declined to comment to FT.
The article says the launch could be close to the Grammys, which will take place on February 7, 2027.
Spotify is currently working on previewing the feature to a limited sample of users.
How it works:
The tool will allow users to create remixes and covers of songs, with royalties paid out to rightsholders of the source material.
So far, Universal Music Group (UMG), Believe, Merlin, and Kobalt have all signed licensing deals for the tool.
Plays for the remixes will be credited to the source songs on the Spotify charts.
According to FT, Spotify is currently negotiating licensing deals with Sony Music Group and Warner Music Group.
Artists will be able to opt out even if their label signed a deal.
What they said:
Spotify Co-CEO Gustav Söderström on Spotify's Q2 earnings call: “So the answer is we do not need a deal with all the majors. We would like to have as many artists as possible, obviously, but we don’t expect to have all artists.”
