Snapchat Unveils ‘Now Playing’ Integration with Spotify

Users can share the music they’re listening to with friends in real time

Snapchat has partnered with Spotify to introduce the Now Playing feature on Snap Map, enabling users to share what they’re listening to with friends in real time.

Why it matters:

  • Snap Map – which allows users to see their friends’ locations – is one of the most popular maps on mobile, used by 450 million people each month.

  • The Now Playing feature opens a new avenue for users to discover music.

How it works:

  • Snapchatters can link their Spotify account through entry points on the Map, Sounds, friend profiles, or in Settings.

  • Once linked they can choose who can see their listening activity, discover new songs via the people they talk to on the app, and save tracks to Spotify from Snap Map, Spotlight, and Sound Pages.

Availability:

  • Now Playing is out wherever Spotify and Snapchat are available, with Canada coming soon.

What they said:

  • Manny Adler, Snapchat Head of Music: “Music is one of the most personal ways people express themselves, and it becomes even more meaningful when it brings friends closer. Now Playing adds a new layer of expression and discovery to Snap Map, helping Snapchatters share the soundtrack to their day and find new music through the people they already know.”
