CISAC, a group of collective management organizations representing over 2 million creators, has released a new report stating that songwriter royalty collections reached a new record in 2024.
The numbers:
CISAC reported a total of $15.1 billion in royalty collections across music, audiovisual, visual arts, literature, and drama in 2024.
Songwriters and publishers make up 90% of that sum.
Digital music royalties made up $5.4 billion. $1.5 billion of that amount was earned from the US.
Italy saw the largest growth in digital, increasing by 27.2% from last year.
Radio and TV music royalties rose by 1.2% to $3.7 billion following a 5.3% decline last year.
Live and background collections increased by 10.4% to $3.66 billion. Major tours like the Taylor Swift Eras Tour had a significant effect.
The report addressed AI as well, stating that AI-generated music could make up 20% of music royalties by 2028.
