A new study from Berklee College of Music has found that one-third of artists use AI for inspiration and more than one-quarter use it to create backing tracks. Over 1,000 people associated with the music business were surveyed for the results.
More numbers:
18% of respondents said they use AI tools throughout the creative process but exclude AI-generated audio from the final product.
56% of artists who were “just starting out” used AI in some way, while that number was 92% for full-time creators.
What they said:
Mark Ethier, Executive Director of the Berklee Emerging Artistic Technology Lab, which conducted the study: “Had we done this study 18 months ago, these numbers would have been a lot lower, and from that perspective it’s pretty shocking.”
Jim Lucchese, President of Berklee: “We’re seeing a high level of individual creative agency in how differently AI can be used, from a composition tool to just pushing your skills.”
