Neil Young to Remove Catalog From Amazon Music
“It Does Not Support You Or Me”
Neil Young has announced he is removing his catalog from Amazon Music, pointedly remarking that Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos “supports this government.” He is also calling for a boycott of the Amazon-owned Whole Foods.
But why:
In a post on the Neil Young Archives website, Young writes, “It is easy to buy local. Support your community. Go to the local store.”
He adds: “Don’t go back to the big corporations who have sold out America... They need you to buy from them. Don’t.”
His protest is tied into his concerns over government shutdowns and the direction of the US, stating: “They shut down our government, your income, your safety. Your family’s health security. Take America Back together, stop buying from the big corporations, support local business. Do the right thing. Show who you are.”
Protest Rock:
This isn’t the first time Young has removed his music from a platform he disapproves of.
In 2022 he removed his music from Spotify in protest at the spread of misinformation around COVID on The Joe Rogan Experience.
He reinstated it in 2024 when Spotify ended its exclusive agreement with the podcast.
In August 2025 he announced he was leaving Facebook in response to a report on the company’s policies on AI chatbot conversations with children.
In his post about Amazon, he includes the message, “Forget Facebook.”
