Lollapalooza is Bringing Back its Hybrid Battery-Powered Main Stage

Last year, Lollapalooza became the first major US festival to utilize this type of power system

Prominent Chicago-based music festival Lollapalooza has announced it will once again power its mainstage with a hybrid battery system as opposed to fossil fuels. The event also announced the renewal of its partnership with Green Nation, the sustainability arm of parent company Live Nation, and the notable music sustainability company, REVERB.

2024 stats:

  • Last year, for the debut of this initiative, Lollapalooza reduced fuel use at the main stage by 67%.

  • This preserved over 3,000 gallons of fuel and stopped 26 metric tons of greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere.

  • That amounts to a year’s worth of power for five homes.

  • 22,000 pounds of material were diverted from landfills to be used by local communities.

Returning in 2025:

  • Re:wild, the conservation organization, will host an activation focused on integrating plant-based products into daily life.

  • Plant Base will bring several food vendors offering completely plant-based menus.

Award-winning sustainability:

  • Lollapalooza is an Illinois Sustainability Award recipient.

  • It uses biodiesel fuel for every generator on site and diverts funds towards renewable energy projects.

What they said:

  • Jake Perry, Director of Operations and Sustainability, C3 Presents: “We are excited and proud to continue this effort by utilizing a cutting-edge hybrid battery system to power our performances while reducing emissions.”

  • Adam Gardner, Co-Founder of REVERB: “We’re thrilled to be back at Lollapalooza with REVERB’s Music Decarbonization Project, building on what we started in 2023 with Billie Eilish–the first battery-powered headline set on a main stage. Powering the entire T-Mobile Stage this year with Green Nation and the festival means even less diesel and a bigger step for climate-friendly live music.”
