Drake has made a new request in his defamation lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG) surrounding Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us.” The Toronto-born superstar rapper is now seeking Lamar’s contract with UMG and information related to allegations of domestic violence pertaining to Lamar.
The request:
UMG had already shared Lamar’s contract with Drake’s legal team, but page 22 was heavily redacted.
This new request is another part of Drake’s efforts to show that UMG defamed him by paying off third parties and offering lower licensing rates to promote “Not Like Us,” which accuses Drake of pedophilia.
Drake’s legal team claims UMG engaged in these activities to weaken Drake’s position during contract negotiations.
The judge in the case has already ruled in Drake’s favor regarding serving a subpoena to Kojo Menne Asamoah.
Other documents:
Drake’s legal team also requested revenue and profit information from Interscope, which is Lamar’s label and a subsidiary of UMG.
This was in an effort to demonstrate that the label was defaming Drake to increase profits from Lamar’s catalog.
Drake is additionally seeking documents relating to UMG CEO Lucian Grainge, whom Drake claims encouraged the competition.
Drake is signed to Republic Records, a UMG subsidiary.
