BMG Acquires Jason Aldean’s Recorded Catalog + More
The deal marks the label’s “single largest catalog acquisition to date”
BMG has acquired the recorded music catalog of country music giant Jason Aldean.
But that’s not all:
Also in the deal are the recorded catalogs and publishing rights of a “cross-section” of 23 artists and songwriters encompassing 1,000 songs across multiple genres.
BMG says this is its “single largest catalog acquisition investment” to date.
As per Music Business Worldwide, the deal is worth around $250 million.
Since the launch of parent company Bertelsmann’s Boost program in 2021 the company has invested more than $1.5 billion in music rights.
Back to Aldean:
The acquisition of Aldean’s recorded catalog and neighboring rights applies to nine studio albums.
His recorded music catalog was previously acquired by Spirit Music Group in February 2002 for more than $100 million.
The acquisition brings Aldean’s entire music career under BMG’s umbrella, as the company acquired BBR Music Group in 2017.
Also in the deal:
Some master recordings from punk band Dropkick Murphys, among others.
What they said:
Thomas Coesfield, BMG CEO: “This landmark deal sets a new level of catalog acquisitions at BMG, while underscoring towards the music and the discipline of our approach. By bringing together the iconic catalog of Jason Aldean, we are strengthening our footprint in country music while expanding across and deepening our investment in the US – the world’s largest music market. This move highlights our ability to maximize the value of music rights and represents a powerful step in BMG’s strategy to be the most effective artist-first music company in the world.”
Jason Aldean: “BBR Music Group and BMG have always shown a real commitment to my music and a belief in me as an artist. Knowing all of my music is in the hands of my long-time label team makes this a full-circle moment, and I’m proud to have my songs continue their journey with them through this next chapter.”
