Blackstone's Recognition Music Group has assembled a Senior Advisory Group, appointing Matt Spetzler as Chairman, and Lisa Alter and David H Johnson as members.
Why it matters:
In 2024 Blackstone acquired Hipgnosis Songs Fund (HSF) for USD $1.58 billion.
In March this year, Blackstone announced it would no longer use the Hipgnosis name, bringing the portfolio's 45,000 songs and the team responsible for maximizing their earnings under the name Recognition Music Group.
In a statement, Blackstone said the advisory group would provide strategic guidance and support the company's mission of "enhancing the legacy and value of its song portfolio".
The team:
As per Music Business Worldwide, Matt Spetzler is the founder of Jamen Capital and "a veteran music and technology investor" with "a strong track record and deep understanding of the music ecosystem."
Lisa Alter is a Partner at Alter, Kendrick & Baron LLP, with more than 30 years' experience in music law.
David H Johnson has worked in roles such as General Counsel of Sony Music and Warner Music, Chairman and Chief Executive of Warner Chappell Music, and Chief Executive of EMI Music Publishing Management.
