UK-based music rights company Bella Figura Music has acquired the publishing catalog and producer income of songwriter-producer Paul Epworth. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Why it matters:
Epworth has contributed to more than 100 million records sold worldwide, accumulating seven GRAMMY Awards.
The deal includes some of Epworth’s co-writes and productions on Adele’s 21 album, such as “Rolling in the Deep,” as well as the Academy Award and Golden Globe-winning “Skyfall,” a co-write with the British singer.
Also included is his work on Florence + The Machine’s Lungs and Ceremonials albums, and collaborations with artists such as Rihanna, Arlo Parks, Glass Animals, Paul McCartney, and more.
Growing portfolio:
Epworth’s is the latest in a series of publishing acquisitions by Bella Figura, which was founded by former BMG UK President Alexi Cory-Smith in 2022.
In February it acquired the publishing catalog of The Drums’ Jonny Pierce; in January it bought a “significant portion” of the Jeepster Recordings catalog.
Other assets in its portfolio include Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock ’N Roll,” The Human League’s “Don’t You Want Me,” and Robbie Williams’ “Angels.”
What they said:
Paul Epworth: “Bella Figura’s approach to catalog stewardship is exactly what I was looking for. They are first and foremost a music company run by people who know and love music, and they appreciate that these songs and recordings are not just ‘assets’. Knowing that this music will be in the hands of a team that values both the commercial opportunity and the cultural legacy gives me confidence in handing my catalog over to them.”
