Anna’s Archive Ignores Injunction, Puts Millions of Spotify Songs Online
The shadow library is currently being sued by Spotify and several record labels
Anna’s Archive, the shadow library that in December announced it had “backed up Spotify,” has released a new round of torrents from its scrape of the streaming platform, as per Digital Music News. Where past releases featured only metadata, this latest tranche includes actual music files.
Catching up:
Since its initial announcement that it had scraped approximately 86 million music files from Spotify, Anna’s Archive has been sued by the streaming giant and several record labels, alleging large-scale piracy.
Anna’s Archive failed to respond to the lawsuit within the required timeframe, paving the way for the plaintiffs to seek a default judgment.
As per Music Business Worldwide, Judge Jed Rakoff of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York issued a preliminary injunction on January 20 when Anna’s Archive failed to show at the scheduled hearing.
The injunction forbade the site from releasing copyrighted works and required domain registries and hosting providers to disable access to its domains.
New release:
Digital Music News reports that many of the domains, or their back-ups, remain active.
It quotes TorrentFreak in stating that new Spotify download links have appeared in Anna’s Archive’s index.
They contain “roughly 2.8 million files,” or “roughly 6 terabytes of music.”
Neither Spotify nor Anna’s Archive has commented on the matter.
