AI music startup Suno has acquired Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) WavTool.
The deal:
WavTool’s browser-based DAW technology will be integrated into Suno’s existing AI music generation platform.
Suno has hailed WavTool as “the first browser-based DAW to combine professional-grade music production features” such as VST plugin capability, sample-accurate editing, and live recording.
As per Music Business Worldwide (MBW), WavTool has “integrated AI capabilities including stem separation and automated MIDI generation. It also operates an in-app chatbot for real-time music editing.”
WavTool’s team will join Suno.
The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
Legal battle:
Suno and its competitor Udio are facing lawsuits from major labels Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment, alleging copyright infringement in the AI training process.
Reports have, however, surfaced that a settlement may be near, with the majors in talks to license their recordings.
What they said:
Mikey Shulman, CEO and Co-Founder of Suno: “Our ultimate goal is to empower musicians, build tools that amplify human creativity and open up access to making great music. By bringing in WavTool’s elite DAW technology, and their team of experts, we’re in a position to better deliver on our mission.”
