Radiohead’s ‘Motion Picture House: Kid A mnesia’ Installation to Debut at Coachella
The audiovisual presentation will then visit four cities
When Coachella announced its 2026 lineup back in September, the words “The Bunker Debut of RADIOHEAD KID A MNESIA,” were right at the bottom. Now the legendary UK five-piece have revealed the cryptic message alluded to an audiovisual installation entitled Motion Picture House: Kid A mnesia.
The details:
The installation will show a film made up of artwork created by Radiohead lead singer Thom Yorke and their longtime partner in visuals, Stanley Donwood.
The artwork in question was designed during the sessions for the Radiohead albums Kid A (2000) and Amnesiac (2001).
The soundtrack to the film was made from multitracks recorded during those sessions.
Radiohead will not perform in any of the cities.
Coachella designed a “17,000 square foot [underground] bunker with 38-foot high ceilings” specifically for the presentation.
After Coachella, the installation will be set up in San Francisco, Brooklyn, Chicago, and Mexico City.
Dates and ticketing information for the non-Coachella engagements can be found here.
The announcement:
“Fans will recall the KID A MNESIA exhibition directed by Sean Evans and featured on Epic Games Store and PS5, aptly described by The Verge as “unsettling and beautiful.” KID A MNESIA was originally intended as an experience in a physical space, and while the pandemic necessitated Epic Games’ Unreal Engine transporting the project to a virtual world, Motion Picture House is the actualization of the original idea: an opportunity for audiences to be completely enveloped in the world of Kid A and Amnesiac. In the flesh, on a large scale and featuring a custom-built 6-point surround system for which the music was specifically remixed, KID A MNESIA features a narrative designed by its creators — in Thom Yorke’s words — 'in which a Monster is trapped in a derelict museum of the lost & forgotten.'"
