Publishing A&R Exec Brittany Perry Launches GATELESS

The company helps surface songs that might otherwise remain buried on hard drives

Former Warner Chappell and Sony Music Publishing A&R executive Brittany Perry has launched GATELESS, a platform designed to help artists and A&Rs search for unreleased songs from the world’s best songwriters.

Backstory:

  • In her previous roles working with songwriters, Perry realized that “thousands of potentially career-defining hits are languishing forgotten on hard drives,” as per the media release.

  • Perry says this “digital graveyard” exists because legacy publishers lack the modern infrastructure to make their catalogs searchable.

  • The issue is compounded by a high turnover of A&R executives, “and a dwindling pipeline of new executive talent.”

The response:

  • Perry began building GATELESS in 2023, with a vision of transforming unpitched ideas into a highly secure marketplace.

  • Songwriters can upload their work into a protected database that artists and A&Rs can actively browse.

  • They can’t, however, simply download songs they like – once they find a promising idea, they can connect directly with the songwriter by paying a ‘connect fee,’ which unlocks a one-on-one virtual meeting to discuss the collaboration and next steps.

  • The platform’s partnership with DoveRunner adds a third layer of IP protection to keep songwriters’ work safe.

  • For enterprise users, GATELESS manages song agreements, reserving files, and tracking roster interactions, enabling A&Rs to manage projects more efficiently.

  • Both songwriters and artists provide the contact information of their attorneys or representatives so the appropriate parties are automatically notified when a potential song agreement is initiated.

Existing clients:

  • The platform’s library of ideas and productions features only vetted professional songwriters.

  • It currently features works by songwriters who have credits with Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran, Jon Batiste, Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, H.E.R., Summer Walker, and more.

What they said:

  • Brittany Perry, Founder and CEO of GATELESS: “The world’s greatest hits aren't on the charts yet. They’re trapped on forgotten hard drives. GATELESS is the jailbreak the music industry has been waiting for."
