Primary Wave Partners with the Estate of Eartha Kitt

The partnership includes Kitt’s catalog and name, image and likeness rights

Independent music publisher Primary Wave has partnered with the estate of legendary entertainer Eartha Kitt and her daughter, Kitt Shapiro.

The deal:

  • The partnership includes the award-winning actress and singer’s catalog of music, as well as her name, image, and likeness (NIL).

  • Kitt’s catalog encompasses 17 studio albums, eight live albums, and more than 50 singles, including hits such as “Santa Baby,” “C’est Si Bon,” and “Let’s Do It.”

  • In addition to her music career, she was also a star of Broadway (The Wizard of Oz, Timbuktu!), film (Anna Lucasta, St. Louis Blues) and television (she played Catwoman in the third season of Batman).

  • Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Growing catalog:

  • Since 2006, Primary Wave has acquired the rights to music from Bob Marley, Prince, Whitney Houston, Stevie Nicks, James Brown, Smokey Robinson, Burt Bacharach and Ray Charles, among others.

  • As Music Business Worldwide highlights, its latest acquisition activity has been powered by a $2 billion partnership with Brookfield Asset Management.
