Mass Layoffs Hit BrooklynVegan, Alt Press, Revolver, and Goldmine

Pitchfork is reporting that music publications BrooklynVegan, Alternative Press, Revolver and Goldmine have been “gutted” by parent company Veeps, with “nearly all staff” at each publication laid off on Tuesday August 4.

Why it matters:

• Each publication has for decades provided independent, skilled music journalism that, in an age of AI-generated mass-produced content, promised deep-dives and informed insights into the music scene and its artists.

• BrooklynVegan was founded in 2004 by Dave Levine; hard rock and metal mainstay Revolver was established in 2000; Goldmine has served record collectors since the mid-’70s; and Alternative Press was founded in Cleveland in 1985.

Punk rock owners:

• Ticketed livestream platform Veeps is owned by Good Charlotte’s Joel and Benji Madden.

• It was acquired by Live Nation in 2021, and bought the publications in around 2024/2025.

• Pitchfork’s requests for comment from Live Nation and Veeps have so far gone unanswered; emails to BrooklynVegan staffers, with the exception of Levine, bounced back.
