inMusic Acquires Music Production Powerhouse Native Instruments

Music technology company inMusic – home to Akai Professional, Moog Music, Denon DJ and more – has acquired Berlin-based music technology outfit Native Instruments.

Why it matters:

• Native Instruments is behind numerous widely used music production tools.

• They include sampler platform Kontakt; DJ platform Traktor; and mastering and audio production tools iZotope, Plugin Alliance, and Brainworx.

Existing history:

• Native Instruments and inMusic have previously partnered on several technical collaborations.

• In a statement, inMusic CEO Jack O’Donnell said the company will continue to “invest across all brands and product lines,” meaning existing tools will continue to operate.

Financial difficulties:

• Native Instruments was declared bankrupt in January.
