The new company was started after the purchase of the Blackground/Black Fountain Publishing catalog

A new publisher, Legacy Publishing, has officially opened. The leaders of the company are industry stalwarts Chaka Zulu, Paris Kirk, and Boikai Cummings.

The catalog:

  • As of now, Legacy manages rights for over 800 songs.

  • The Blackground/Black Fountain Publishing catalog is part of the repertoire.

  • Artists include Aaliyah, Missy Elliott, and Timbaland, with collaborators such as Jay-Z, Drake, Lil Wayne, and Nas.

  • Samples from the Legacy catalog have been used in new songs such as “CN Tower” by PARTYNEXTDOOR and Drake, and “WASSUP” by Young Miko.

  • Legacy has also secured sync licenses such as Drake’s “Look What You’ve Done” in Hulu’s Reasonable Doubt, and Young Miko’s “WASSUP” in EA Sports’ FC 2026.

  • Legacy will be headquartered in Atlanta with branches in Los Angeles, London, and Johannesburg.

Follow the money:

What they said:

  • Zulu: “Everything we do contributes to our legacy. We are building a business our descendants can be proud of; one rooted in values, thoughtful acquisitions, flexible partnerships, and a clear sense of purpose.”

  • Cummings: “Copyright owners are looking for both financial flexibility and true partnership. High-quality music assets require the right structure and experienced partners to help them evolve into the next era of music.”
