Dua Lipa is suing electronics manufacturer Samsung for $15 million, alleging it has used her likeness to sell TVs without permission or compensation.
The complaint:
The suit alleges that, by using her image on the cardboard packaging of its TVs, Samsung is profiting from the implication that the singer has endorsed the product.
The company’s response to Lipa’s demands to stop using her image was, says the complaint, “dismissive and callous.”
As per Variety, Lipa owns the copyright to the photo in question, which was taken backstage at Austin City Limits in 2024.
The complaint, which was filed in the Central District Court of California, alleges a copyright violation, a violation of the California right of publicity statute, a federal Lanham Act claim, and trademark claims, as per Variety.
Samsung is yet to comment.
