Suno Integrates Musixmatch Sentinel Copyright Detection Service Into Platform

Suno is Sentinel’s first customer

Suno, the largest AI music company, has become the first customer of Musixmatch’s Sentinel copyright detection service. Sentinel was designed to flag copyrighted lyrics in AI-generated output.

Background:

How it works:

  • Sentinel can find copyrighted lyrics at any stage of generation.

  • According to a press release acquired by Music Business Worldwide,  Sentinel can also “rapidly identify durable matches with millisecond-level latency.”

  • Sentinel uses lyric matching to link its detection service to rightsholders so as to open channels for royalties.

  • Musixmatch designed Sentinel to comply with the EU AI Act and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

  • Sentinel draws from a massive database of music, including works owned by all three major labels, in order to identify protected material.

What they said:

  • Rio Caraeff, Co-President of Musixmatch: “Suno is enabling extraordinary new levels of creativity and expression, but the broader landscape calls for robust infrastructure to help platforms understand what is being created and whether copyrighted material is being submitted. Sentinel was purpose-built to provide that visibility at the highest level of quality and hyper-scaler production readiness. We’re delighted that Suno is the first platform to adopt Sentinel, as part of their broader approach to responsible AI innovation.”

  • Phil Castro, General Counsel of Suno: “As AI technology continues to evolve, building products responsibly is critical. One of our guiding principles is to ensure our tools enable original music creation, not imitation, and Musixmatch has been a key partner in helping us identify and prevent misuse. Adding Sentinel will only strengthen our capabilities for protecting artists and human creativity, and is one of several measures we’re adopting to further support creatives while combating fraud and abuse.”
